UAN or Universal Account Number is a 12-digit identification number which both you and your employer are assigned. It is by virtue of which each of you can contribute towards your EPF. This number is actually assigned by Ministry of Labour and Employment and is generated by EPFO or Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation.

Usually, two UAN numbers are assigned - one to your employer and other to you by EPFO. So, everytime you hop to a new job the EPFO allots you a new member identification number (ID) which automatically links to your existing UAN. You can either raise a request for member ID directly with EPFO or do it with your employer so they can use use UAN to request EPFO for a new member ID.
Finding UAN using PAN Number:
Step 1- Visit employee’s provident fund website.
Step 2- Click on Know your UAN status.
Step 3- You will be redirected to a new page. Enter your PAN details selecting your state and city. Enter all the required personal details like name, date of birth, mobile no., and email. Once you have entered the relevant details, enter the correct captcha and click on ‘Get Authorisation Pin’.
Step 4- You will receive a One Time Password (OTP) on your registered mobile number. Enter this number in the web page and receive your UAN on the mobile number.

Finding UAN using Member ID:
Step 1 – Enter the Member ID visiting the official website of EPF
Step 2- Enter all the required details like, including name, date of birth, mobile no. and email ID with captcha code. Click on ‘Get Authorisation Pin’
Step 3- You will receive a pin on your registered mobile number, which you have to enter it in the next web page. After that Click on ‘Validate OTP and get UAN’ button. You will get the UAN on your mobile number.
